What kind of finish is best?

A popular color for bunk beds is white, especially in beds that have been constructed using laminated board.

While a shiny lacquer or polyurethane finish usually is very attractive at the store, its appeal usually begins to fade rather quickly. It is like the difference between patent leather and leather shoes. While patent leather looks worse each time you wear them, leather only improves with age and polish. Lacquer and polyurethane finishes are easily scratched, leaving the bed looking old and worn not long after you have brought it home. Some of the best finishes are very easy to maintain, such as a basic stain that can be kept clean with lemon oil. Stains also make it easy to make minor repairs to the finish if you ever want to sell your bunk beds.

A popular color for bunk beds is white, especially in beds that have been constructed using laminated board. If you are purchasing a solid wood bed, however, you may prefer a while pickle stain over paint. While a pickle may not give you a solid white, you may get the effect you are looking for without having to worry about chipped or peeling paint.
